Our History
Food, Drinks and Allied Workers' Union (FDAWU) was formed on 6 November 1964 with about 1,000 members from less than ten branches. It was as a result of a breakaway from the now defunct Industrial Workers' Union (IWU). On 30 March 2000, Food and Beverage Industrial Workers' Union (FBIWU) was merged with FDAWU. FBIWU was itself inaugurated on 27 November 1981.
FDAWU's current union membership strength is over 12,000 ordinary branch (OB) members from more than 100 branches. It also has over 23,000 general branch (GB) members.
